The government believes that these reforms will curb the misuse of the scheme and provide more help to the needy people. However, it is also true that some people may face problems due to lack of knowledge about the e-KYC process.
Many types of benefits to citizens
Citizens will be benefitted from this scheme in many ways. Every eligible person in the ration card holder family will get 5 kg free ration per month. Apart from this, Rs 1000 will be deposited directly in the bank account of every family every month. This will help poor families to meet their daily needs and this will provide free ration which will improve the economic condition of poor families.
Rural economic activities will get a boost, issuance of ration cards in the name of women will get a boost, which will boost women empowerment. To enroll in this scheme, you will have to have some important documents like ration card, Aadhaar card, copy of bank passbook, income certificate and residence certificate.
New T and C applicable from 1 January 2025
New quantity of ration: The government has changed the quantity of food grains available under the ration card.
General ration card holders:
- Now 2 kg of wheat and 2.5 kg of rice per unit will be available.
- Earlier, the quantity was 2 kg wheat and 3 kg rice.
- The quantity of rice has been down by 0.5 kg.
Antyodaya ration card holders:
- Now 17 kg of wheat and 18 kg of rice will be available.
- Earlier, 14 kg of wheat and 21 kg of rice were available.
- The total quantity of ration will remain 35 kg.
Mera Ration 2.0 – Mobile App
Here is a good news for ration card holders, there is going to be a change in the rules for ration card holders from the new year. Under this, ration card holders will not need a ration card to take ration, for this, the Mera Ration 2.0 app can be used. The Mera Ration 2.0 app can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
Keep in mind that if your Aadhaar is not linked to mobile, then you will not be able to log in. At present, ration card holders have to carry the card to the ration shop and the shopkeeper notes the number written on it, after which it is verified. After verifying, you get ration, but the Government of India has changed the rules of ration.
Ekyc is mandatory now
E-KYC of ration card is very easy and for this, e-KYC of ration card can be done by going to your nearest ration depot. You must carry your Aadhaar card with you and then you have to complete this process by giving your fingerprint on the PoS machine. You can also do e-KYC through mobile. The scheme will run from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028.
